Filters sculpt your sound by removing frequencies. Turn harsh oscillators into warm pads, or thin out muddy bass.
How Filters Work
Filters let certain frequencies through while cutting others. The cutoff determines where filtering begins.
The Three Essential Filter Types
Low-Pass (LPF)
- Lets lows pass, cuts highs
- Sound: Warm, dark, smooth
- Use: Bass, pads, smoothing
High-Pass (HPF)
- Lets highs pass, cuts lows
- Sound: Thin, bright, airy
- Use: Space, clarity, effects
Band-Pass (BPF)
- Keeps middle range only
- Sound: Focused, nasal, vocal
- Use: Resonance, formants
